Just another day in the life of Florida Man?
Recently, a central Florida man came face-to-face with a home intruder, only it wasn’t human. Officials say a black bear wandered into a garage and panicked when the door closed behind it, bolting into the house and charging down the hallway.
Homeowner Zeke Clark said the sight of a bear sent his family into a panic. With his dogs barking, the bear ran into the bathroom. Clark claims he closed the door behind the intruder and grabbed a firearm.
Clark opened the door, took aim and fired once at the bear, who was hiding in the shower. The animal lashed out, and pressed against the closed door.
When Clark believed it had backed off, he cracked the door again and fired two more times, until the bear bled to death.
No one else in the home was injured, and authorities say no charges have yet been filed for the incident.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) reminds people to be vigilant in areas with wild animals, and avoid leaving out food, or leaving doors open unattended. Furthermore, to call the FWC Wildlife Alert Hotline at (888) 404-3922 if they feel threatened by an animal. Also, they encourage residents to call if they see in danger, sick or injured animals.
So next time you’re in Florida, check your shower for bears.
