Officials in Richfield, Minnesota, announced that two students were shot outside the South Education Center.
The suspect is thought to have immediately fled the scene, but no eye witnesses have come forward. Police soon arrived to find two wounded students on the sidewalk. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital, but one did not survive. The other remains in critical condition.
After the shooting, the school went into lockdown, but the restrictions have since been lifted. The school states “South Education Center (SEC) serves students pre-K through Transition(12) with unique needs in a variety of programs.”
As of yet, there is no description of the suspect. However, multiple agencies have been seen at the school, including the FBI, and ATF.
“This is a tragic day in the city of Richfield,” Police Chief Jay Henthorne said of the incident. The school announced they will intact a plan to offer support to the family and friends of the victims.
