We spoke with the man in the video, Sam DeMar, who told us this of the experience:

When it first happened, I got peppered by the powder and was confused on exactly what happened. First though was my gun blew up and that I had a squib but then realized I saw my hit on paper in the credit card and didn’t hear anything that was off. When the video cuts my friend said “dude you okay? something just happened? what happened? i got peppered”

I unload, make clear, and I noticed the plastic from the ammo box had shattered and thought somehow my flashlight on my firearm broke and then crossed that off when i noticed it was fine. My friend then said he has it on video and we watched it back to see the spent casing ignited the primer on the table. Very crazy and highly unlikely but it happened.

Everyone that has been saying “you’re so lucky you didn’t get shot” must not realize without being shot from a barrel, the bullet wouldn’t have enough velocity to cause any great bodily harm. If anything it might feel like a paintball or leave a small flesh wound.

Things to take away from this experiences are, anything is possible, wear eye pro whenever you shoot (I was wearing oakley m frames) , expect the unexpected, keep ammo away from firing line.

I was shooting NORMA 124 Grain 9MM FMJ. I contacted them and showed them this video. They replied wanting to know the lot number of the ammo and want to send me a shipping label to send back all the ammo I currently have from the last order for “Testing and Evaluation”.

I hope you learn something from this video. Train hard, be safe.
