On January 28th, USCENTCOM released a statement outlining their initial confirmation of the deadly attack.

The release contained the following information:

On Jan. 28, three U.S. service members were killed and 25 injured from a one-way attack UAS that impacted at a base in northeast Jordan, near the Syria border.
As a matter of respect for the families and in accordance with DoD policy, the identities of the servicemembers will be withheld until 24 hours after their next of kin have been notified.
Updates will be provided as they become available.

President Joe Biden released a statement blaming the attack on “radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq.”

The President also claimed he had “no doubt — we will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner our choosing.”

According to reports, Tower 22 is a small installation, that Jordan does not publicly disclose. The lesser known facility is located near the Syrian border, and includes U.S. engineering, aviation, logistics and security troops.

The US and Jordan have long mantianted a close working relationship, with some 3,000 American troops typically in Jordan at any given time.
