An Army AH-64 Apache mishap at Fort Riley, Kansas, on Tuesday resulted in two troops being hospitalized, confirmed an official from the Army’s 1st Infantry Division. Lt. Col. Jefferson Grimes, the division spokesperson, stated that the soldiers are in stable condition following the incident, which occurred during a gunnery training exercise at the base’s training area.
Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the mishap, which involved a helicopter assigned to the 1st Infantry Division’s Combat Aviation Brigade. This incident follows a string of similar occurrences, including back-to-back Apache mishaps in March that collectively injured four crew members. The recent incidents have prompted the Army to prioritize additional aviation safety training.
In March, an AH-64 Apache crash at Fort Carson, Colorado, resulted in minor injuries to two service members, who were treated at the hospital and released later that night. This incident occurred shortly after another Apache helicopter accident in Washington state. These mishaps were preceded by two AH-64D Apache helicopter crashes in February, leading the Army National Guard to order a component-wide pause on flight missions.
