Seoul, South Korea – K-pop sensation BTS is once again in the news as one of its members, J-Hope, announces his plan of joining the military in coming days, further cementing the band’s ongoing commitment to fulfil their national service duties as South Korean citizens.

J-Hope revealed his plans to enlist through a statement released by his management company, Big Hit Entertainment.

“We would like to inform our fans that J-hope has initiated the military enlistment process by applying for the termination of his enlistment postponement,” says Big Hit Music.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">J-Hope has announced he would begin the process of serving his mandatory military service, as well as the release of his upcoming new single &quot; On the Street&quot; <a href="https://t.co/76y2USMZXz">https://t.co/76y2USMZXz</a></p>&mdash; Rolling Stone (@RollingStone) <a href="https://twitter.com/RollingStone/status/1629917990530478082?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 26, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

However, he would not be joining the services before releasing his upcoming solo “on the street” on 3rd March, says the company.

J-Hope expressed his gratitude to fans for their unwavering support and assured them that he would continue to work hard to improve as an artist during his time in the military.

“I’m excited to take on this new challenge and fulfil my duty to my country,” J-Hope said.

J-Hope is the latest member of BTS to begin the procedure of enlisting for obligatory military service. Jin, the oldest member of the group, enlisted in March 2021, and began his service in December 2021. While Suga and RM have both completed their service in the past. The remaining members – Jimin, V, and Jungkook – are expected to follow suit in the coming years.

While the news of J-Hope’s enlistment was not entirely unexpected – South Korean men are required to serve approximately two years in the military – it still came as a shock to many fans.

The 29-year-old rapper and dancer is known for his lively stage presence and infectious energy, and his absence from the group will undoubtedly be felt by fans around the world.

Many expressed sadness and disappointment at the prospect of one of their favorite members being away from the group for an extended period, while others praised J-Hope for his dedication to his country and his willingness to fulfil his military duty.

For BTS, the decision to fulfil their military service obligations has been a point of pride and responsibility. The group has spoken in interviews about the importance of fulfilling their duties as South Korean citizens and has worked hard to balance their careers with their national service commitments.
