Off-duty Bronx cop mugged, left bleeding and unconscious

An off-duty NYPD police officer was critically injured in a brutal mugging while jogging Tuesday morning and left bleeding and unconscious.

The 48-year-old cop was jumped by three men at approximately 10:30 AM while running near Olmstead Avenue. According to police officials and other sources, this violent crime may fit into a pattern of similar attacks throughout the city.

The Central Park precinct cop who had been on the force for 28 years was discovered lying on the sidewalk, unresponsive and bleeding from one ear.

According to sources, one of the cop’s assailants punched him in the head, knocking him unconscious.

Having no form of identification in his possession, he was admitted as a John Doe to the Jacobi Medical Center with a brain bleed and a fractured skull. Later that evening, he was identified by NYPD as one of their own.

According to a source, an eye witness to the mugging declined to cooperate with investigators. It was determined however that the attackers fled the scene in a black Honda sedan. No arrests have yet been made.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams visited the officer at the hospital. Patrick Lynch, President of the Police Benevolent Association vowed to bring the “cowards” who perpetrated this assault to justice.

Lynch said, “Make no mistake: we will find them. But we will need the rest of the justice system to step up and do its job, too.”

According to Police officials, the recent mugging of the off-duty cop matches an established pattern of 19 other robberies throughout New York City since the beginning of August. The first two muggings of this type took place in Queens while the rest of them occurred in the Bronx. occurred in Queens, while all others happened in the Bronx. Six of them occurred on Monday of this week.

The 43rd precinct, where Tuesday’s attack took place, has seen a surge in robberies this year, according to police stats.

As of Sunday, the precinct recorded 461 robberies, compared to the 271 in the same period last year — an increase of 70%, the stats show.

Currently, there is a 70% spike in robberies in the 43rd Precinct’s district. There have currently been 461 robberies reported compared to 271 at the same precinct during the same time period last year.
