The US confirmed that two Russian missiles struck NATO territory inside Poland, killing two people.

In the village of Przewodow, roughly five miles outside of Ukraine, a civilian tractor carrying grain was struck by at least one of the missiles.

According to the local Przewodow fire brigade, they had received reports that two people were killed immediately by an explosion by a grain silo and that they were currently securing the scene.

The strike of the missiles inside Poland directly coincided with a massive Russian missile attack launched at Ukraine’s most western city, Lviv.

The Polish Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, assembled the country’s National Security Committee in an emergency meeting to discuss what they referred to as a “crisis situation”.

According to an official inside Poland, the investigation into the missile strike “is still ongoing”.

Patrick Ryde, spokesperson for the Pentagon, addressed reporters saying, “We are aware of the press reports alleging that two Russian missiles have struck a location inside Poland near the Ukraine border. I can tell you that we don’t have any information at this time to corroborate those reports and are looking into this further.”

According to the spokesperson for Hungary’s Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, the Hungarian defense council was also assembled in response to the Russian missiles that hit Poland.

Since the start of the Moscow’s war on Ukraine, Russian attacks have not resulted in any deaths outside of the Russian or Ukrainian border. This marks the first fatality of this war which occurred inside of a neighboring NATO territory.

NATO’s secretary general, Jens Stoltenberg, has previously stated that all 30 members of NATO would be unified in their defense of any attacks by Russia. Defense sources advise the use of caution however as these trikes inside Poland were likely an accident.

Artis Pabriks, Latvia’s defense minister and deputy prime minister, said: “My condolences to our Polish brothers in arms. Criminal Russian regime fired missiles which target not only Ukrainian civilians but also landed on NATO territory in Poland. Latvia fully stands with Polish friends and condemns this crime.”
