Egyptian health ministry officials claim severe weather caused a swarm of scorpions in the city of Aswan.

Over 450 others were injured and required hospitalization. Health officials stated over 3,000 anti-venom treatments were available in the city, as this type of injury is known to be particularly deadly.

The fat-tailed scorpion is only 3-4 inches full grown. However, it is considered to be one of the most dangerous scorpions in the world. Their sting delivers neurotoxins, cardiotoxins, and possibly myotoxins that may be fatal if not treated within an hour of being stung.

Although several poisonous scorpions inhabit the region, the swarm of scorpions are thought to be from the genus Androctonus, which originaly translated from Greek into Latin means “man-killer.”

There are around 18 species of Androctonus, varying in shape, color, and size. Nevertheless, the one thing they have in common is they can all stay the hell away from me.
