The India-China Himalayan border has seen numerous clashes between Indian and Chinese soldiers over the last few years. Another one is said to have broken out on December 9, 2022. Indian forces claiming that China was attempting to take control of the Tawang valley, an important border post where the recent clash occurred.

Some minor injuries were reported, but no deaths. Furthermore, both sides were reported to have quickly “disengaged” and left the immediate area. The Indian Army stated, “Commanders on both sides in the areas held a Flag Meeting to discuss the issue in accordance with structured mechanisms to restore peace and tranquillity.”

June 2020 clash: 20 reported casualties

The Tawang valley is extremely remote, located at an altitude of over 11,000 feet. About two and half years ago, a deadlier clash was reported between Indian and Chinese forces in the Galwan valley, a different location on the long Himalayan border shared by the two nations.

This recent clash may have only recorded a few minor injuries suffered by both sides, but the Galwan clash from June 2020 recorded 20 Indian casualties with a larger number of injured soldiers from both India and China.
