Retired Four-Star General Warns US Faces 'Most Challenging' Threats Since WWII, Says 'Near-Term Major War' Possible

Retired four-star general Jack Keane warns that the US faces its most challenging threats since World War II, citing conflicts in Europe and the Middle East, and aggressive behavior from China and North Korea, which could lead to a "near-term major war"

A retired four-star general has warned that the United States is currently faced with the "most challenging" threats since World War II, and that a "near-term major war" could take place. Jack Keane, a retired four-star general and Fox News senior strategic analyst, made the comments on Fox Business, citing the war between Russia and Ukraine in Europe, the war between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East, and increased threats from China and North Korea.

Keane pointed to the recent "Commission on the National Defense Strategy" report, which he contributed to, warning that another war is possible. The report suggests that the US is facing the "most serious" and "most challenging" threats since World War II and indicates that a "near-term major war" was possible. The commission highlighted Russia and China as the "major powers" confronting the US and warned that the US military “lacks both the capabilities and the capacity required to be confident it can deter and prevail in combat.”

Keane highlighted the current conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East and warned that China's aggressive behavior has "increased dramatically." He also noted that adversarial nations have significantly changed their behavior toward the US after President Joe Biden was elected, with Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea working together and perceiving the US as weak.

The retired four-star general warned that the US has not experienced "a period of time like this since World War II" and that it is possible that the US could find itself in a conflict with China, while Russia and Iran "up their game" because they believe the US can't handle it. This, he said, would lead to a global war. Keane's comments come as former President Donald Trump has also warned that the US is “heading into World War III territory.”
