While the rocket attack did not cause any harm to the US military personnel stationed at the base, it did cause some minor damage to the infrastructure. The exact number of rockets fired, and the extent of damage caused is yet to be ascertained.
The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition war monitor, suggested that Iran-backed fighters based in eastern Syria might have been responsible for the attack.

The attack follows a suspected Iran-linked drone attack on U.S. contractors in northeast Syria that killed one and wounded six others in late March. In retaliation, U.S. forces carried out airstrikes on sites in Syria used by groups affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

Despite the attack, U.S. forces remain committed to their mission in Syria, which is to prevent any resurgence of the Islamic State group.

There are at least 900 U.S. troops deployed in Syria currently, along with an undisclosed number of contractors. U.S. special operations forces also operate in Syria, moving in and out of the country in small teams.

The U.S. forces primarily work with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a coalition of Kurdish and Arab fighters, to provide training and support to fight against the Islamic State group. They also conduct operations against the remnants of the group, which still poses a threat in the region.

The rocket attack on the Mission Support Site Conoco in eastern Syria is the latest in a series of attacks on U.S. and coalition forces in the region. Despite the challenges, the U.S. and its allies remain committed to maintaining a presence in Syria to achieve their objectives in the region.

The latest attack on the US military base in Syria is likely to further escalate the already volatile situation in the region, with the possibility of further retaliatory strikes from the US forces. The situation remains fluid, and it remains to be seen how the US and its allies will respond to this latest provocation.
