Former Marine Jheyco Borda was working on his pickup truck in Oxon Hill when four armed teenagers surrounded him and demanded his car and valuables. He waited for one split second of distraction, disarmed the gunman and held all four suspects down until police arrived.

He was working on his truck on a Wednesday afternoon.

Four teenagers in hooded sweatshirts walked up and surrounded him.

Jheyco Borda, a former Marine trained in hand-to-hand combat, was working on his vehicle near Oxon Hill High School around 4:30 p.m. when the four suspects approached him on the sidewalk.

They demanded his car keys, his phone and everything else he had.

Surveillance video captured the moment one of the teens pulled out a handgun and pointed it directly at Borda's head.

Then the suspect got distracted for a split second.

That was all Borda needed.

He immediately fought back and disarmed the teen. Seeing the commotion, Borda's brother rushed over to help.

During the struggle, the gun went off.

No one was hit. The bullet struck Borda's truck instead, leaving a visible hole in the vehicle.

The fight was not over yet.

As the struggle continued, another suspect tried to jump in. Borda's brother turned and grabbed him.

Together, the two brothers pinned all four teenagers to the pavement.

They held the suspects down on the ground until Prince George's County police officers arrived and took all four into custody. The four suspects are currently in jail.

If you have followed this far, here is the part worth thinking about.

Four armed teenagers surrounded a man they believed was an easy target working alone on a side street.

They had a gun. They had numbers. They had the element of surprise.

They had not done their homework.

The man they pointed a weapon at had been trained by the United States Marine Corps in hand-to-hand combat. He waited for one moment of distraction and took the gun before they understood what was happening.

His brother did the rest.

Prince George's County Police are asking anyone with additional information about the incident to contact them immediately.

Four teenagers are in jail tonight for pulling a gun on the wrong person on a Wednesday afternoon in Maryland.

The truck still has a bullet hole in it. Borda is fine.

Editor's Note: The incident in Oxon Hill is another reminder that military training does not stay on the base. Jheyco Borda's composure under a loaded weapon pointed at his face, and the speed with which he responded the moment an opening appeared, likely prevented a robbery from becoming something far worse.
