The selection of a new Joint Chiefs of Staff is an important decision for President Biden, as he seeks to implement his foreign policy agenda and address ongoing military challenges. The decision on who will lead the Joint Chiefs of Staff is likely to be a closely watched one, with many expecting the Biden administration to make significant changes to the military’s leadership in the coming years. The new leadership team will also be responsible for overseeing the continued drawdown of U.S. forces in Afghanistan and navigating tensions with countries like Iran and North Korea.

Whoever is selected for the role will be tasked with overseeing the US military during a time of significant global challenges, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, increasing tensions with China and Russia, and ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

It is unclear when President Biden will make his final decision on the Joint Chiefs of Staff appointments. However, sources say that he is taking the process seriously and is consulting with a range of experts and advisors. The President has emphasized the importance of having a diverse leadership team, and all of the top contenders would bring unique skills and experiences to the role.
