Burkina Faso military sufferers devastating attack as Islamic extremists launch assault 33 soldiers killed
The army praised the “remarkable determination” shown by its soldiers during the particularly intense combat. Despite being outnumbered, the Burkina Faso detachment managed to kill 40 of the attackers, who were linked to al-Qaida and the al-Qaida.
Burkina Faso has been wracked by violence for the past seven years, as Islamic extremist groups have carried out a violent insurgency that has claimed thousands of lives and displaced around 2 million people. The situation has also led to two coups in the past year alone, as civilians become increasingly frustrated with the government’s inability to provide security.
The new junta leader, Capt. Ibrahim Traore has pledged to make Burkina Faso safe again. However, many civilians remain skeptical of the country’s security forces, whom they accuse of extrajudicial killings and the disappearance of countless individuals accused of supporting the militants.
The attacks are continuing to intensify and spread across the country, as the militants blockade villages and prevent hundreds of thousands of people from moving freely. Earlier this month, gunmen killed at least 40 members of the security forces in the northern part of the country, while dozens of others were injured.
Residents have accused the security forces of brutalizing civilians in the north, and the United Nations has called for a thorough and independent investigation into what it called the “horrific killing of civilians.”
The situation in the country is extremely concerning, with violence and instability showing no signs of abating. As the country continues to be plagued by extremist attacks, civilians are living in fear for their lives, with the government and security forces struggling to maintain control. The international community must act quickly to address this crisis and prevent further bloodshed in Burkina Faso.
