A Navy sailor at a Virginia base made multiple unsuccessful attempts to access President Joe Biden’s medical records, prompting an investigation and administrative action.

A sailor assigned to a medical team at a base in Virginia made multiple unsuccessful attempts to access President Joe Biden’s medical records earlier this year, a Navy spokesperson confirmed Tuesday. The service member, who was not named, worked with the Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command at Fort Belvoir during the attempted breaches in February.

Cmdr. Tim Hawkins stated that the sailor searched for “Joseph Biden” in the Military Health System’s electronic health record system out of “curiosity.” Despite these attempts, the sailor only accessed a health record that did not belong to the president, and at no point was President Biden’s personal information compromised.

The attempted access was first reported by ABC News. A defense official informed NBC News that the sailor made three attempts to view Biden’s information on February 23, about two weeks after special counsel Robert Hur cited Biden’s “poor memory” as a factor in his decision not to pursue charges in a classified documents review.

The breach was reported by a co-worker, prompting an investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). The Secret Service was notified and participated in interviewing the sailor. The NCIS investigation concluded on April 24, and the sailor faced administrative accountability.

Air Force Maj. Gen. Patrick Ryder, a Defense Department spokesperson, confirmed that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was informed of the breach in February and that the Navy had reported the incident to the White House.

The disclosure of this attempted records access comes amid renewed scrutiny of President Biden’s health following his recent debate performance against former President Donald Trump. In response, Biden’s personal physician released a letter Monday night stating that Biden showed no signs of any neurological disorder, including Parkinson’s disease, during his last annual physical on February 28.
