A Virginia country club in Stafford County is dodging criticism and hate after posting a 9/11 themed dinner menu online. The menu was posted for Patriots Day and featured plates and beverages named with 9/11 themes.

The restaurant which typically has themed menus rotating out on special days, shared the “Seafood Sunday” menu online which was intended to be served on 9/11.

The menu had items listed such as “Flight 93 Redirect” crab dip, “9-11 Oysters”, “First Responder Flatbread” and “Pentagon Pie”.

Receiving terrible backlash and publicity, the original menu has been taken down, but not before going viral on social media.

The country club’s manager, George White, issued an apology on the club’s Facebook  account.

The apology read in part, “I apologize for those I offended with the 9/11 seafood Sunday post. My intention was to bring attention to that horrific day 21 years ago. To honor those who lost so much as well as those who gave everything that day. We will have a new theme tomorrow.”

Since then, the menu — while unchanged — has been rebranded as football themed and now has items such as “Hot Defense Dip”, “Offense Oysters”, “Field Gold Flatbread”, and “Coin Toss Chocolate Pie.”
