On July 17th, a gunman opened fire into a Greenwood, Indiana mall food court, killing 3 and injuring 2. In a heroic feat, 22-year-old Elisjsha Dicken neutralized the threat only 15 seconds into the cowardly attack. An autopsy revealed the shooter was hit eight times.

Dicken was spending the day at the mall with his girlfriend when he heard the gunfire. Shay Goldman has been quoted saying, “‘Eli pushed me out of the way and told me to get down and stay down.”

Employing his handgun from 40 yards away, Dicken eradicated the shooter. Reports say the wounded attacker attempted to retreat into the bathroom, but collapsed from his injuries. The culprit was armed with multiple magazines and was most likely not expecting to be cut down so quickly.

There is little known about Elisjsha Dicken. Though he consented to the police releasing his name, age, and hometown, he is abstaining from any public commentary and taking time to process the event. It is confirmed that despite his tactical competency, Dicken has no law enforcement or military background.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Simon malls have a &quot;no firearms&quot; policy that the Greenwood hero apparently ignored. However, IN does not have a law that criminalizes the act of ignoring a &quot;no guns&quot; policy on private property. So this issue has no effect on the outcome of this case - justified is justified.</p>&mdash; Guy Relford (@guyrelford) <a href="https://twitter.com/guyrelford/status/1549062329081503744?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 18, 2022</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Though he did not have a permit, Dicken was legally carrying a 9mm. Carrying a handgun without a permit is now legal under Indiana’s Constitutional Carry law, as of July 1st 2022. Many malls prohibit firearms on their premises, but the Greenwood Police Chief has reiterated the fact Dicken was legally carrying his pistol.
