Canadian sniper who fought ISIS and Taliban with Canada's Royal 22e Regiment arrived in Ukraine to fight Russians. The sniper's unit broke a world record by eliminating an ISIS target from over 3,540 meters away - Wali is rumored to be that sniper.

The Canadian sniper, who goes by the nickname, ‘Wali’, recently crossed the border from Poland into Ukraine under the cover of darkness. Wali declined to specify where exactly he crossed.

An unnamed friend of the Canadian Sniper had been organizing non-tactical, humanitarian convoys into Ukraine to deliver necessities to displaced citizens. He reached out to Wali on Friday. “He told me they needed a sniper” Wali said, “It’s like a firefighter who hears the alarm ringing. I had to go.”

Wali, 40, left behind his wife and infant child. His wife, who asked to remain anonymous, had mixed feelings on “allowing” her husband to go. “I knew that if I didn’t let him go, I would have broken him,” his wife commented. “It would have been like putting him in jail.”

Wali had deployed twice to Afghanistan to fight Taliban and also fought along side Kurds in Syria against ISIS. The Canadian sniper spoke further on his decision to travel to assist Ukraine: “I want to help them. It’s as simple as that. I have to help because there are people here being bombarded just because they want to be European and not Russian.”

Wali told reporters that he and the three other Canadian combat veterans with whom he traveled were met by Ukrainians “with hugs, handshakes, flags and photos… after they crossed the border.” Wali said, “They were so happy to have us. It’s like we were friends right away.”
