Iran sentences protestor to death for “waging war against God”

A suspect accused of setting fire to a government building in Iran has just been sentenced to death. Sources have reported a Revolutionary Court, in the nation’s capital of Tehran, determined the unnamed suspect was guilty of “moharebeh” (waging war against God) and “committing crimes against national security.”

A suspect accused of setting fire to a government building in Iran has just been sentenced to death. Sources have reported a Revolutionary Court, in the nation’s capital of Tehran, determined the unnamed suspect was guilty of “moharebeh” (waging war against God) and “committing crimes against national security.”

Furthermore, another court has recently convicted five protestors for public order and national security charges. The sentences ranging from 5 to 10 years.

Iran has seen widespread riots for nearly two months following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. The United Nation believes over 14,000 protestors have been detained since then.

A Norwegian humans rights organization claims that 326 protesters, including 43 children and 25 women, have died during the government response to recent protests.

In response to a diplomatic request by Germany and Iceland, the UN Human Rights Council will hold an emergency session the week of Nov. 21 to address Iran’s treatment of civilians, journalist, and other accusations of human rights violations.
