A Russian man has been handed a four-year prison sentence in the United Kingdom for attacking a woman in a case that drew attention after Barron Trump reported the incident to police during a video call.
Matvei Rumiantsev, 22, was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday after being convicted in January of causing actual bodily harm. He was also found guilty of attempting to interfere with justice after sending a letter from prison asking the victim to retract her claims.

During court proceedings, Rumiantsev acknowledged feeling some jealousy over the woman’s online friendship with Barron Trump, which he said had led to tension between them in 2024.
Barron Trump, now 19, contacted UK authorities on January 18 last year after witnessing the incident remotely. According to court transcripts, he told police he had received a call from a woman who was being assaulted and urgently sought help.
He later described the video interaction as brief but impactful.
The victim, whose identity is protected by law, told the court that Trump’s actions likely prevented a more serious outcome, saying she believed his intervention saved her life.
Rumiantsev was cleared of other allegations tied to the same incident, including charges of rape and intentional strangulation. He was also found not guilty of separate accusations of rape and assault dating back to November 2024, according to PA Media.
