Republicans Defend Federal Spending, Blame Democrats for Shutdown

As the government shutdown continues, Republicans are now defending the same federal programs they often criticize, while blaming Democrats for the crisis.

Many Republican leaders warned that the shutdown is hurting families, disaster response teams, and government services.

Speaker Mike Johnson said the shutdown affects “women, infants, and children who rely on food programs,” and limits FEMA’s ability to help during hurricane season.
