The Quantico Shooting Club launches a free Shotgun Sports Mentorship Program, offering two-year memberships and training to junior Marines ranked corporal and below.

Quantico, VA - The Quantico Shooting Club (QSC) has introduced a Shotgun Sports Mentorship Program, offering free two-year memberships to active-duty service members ranked corporal and below.

The program, designed for service members without access to firearms, pairs mentees with experienced QSC members who serve as mentors. Participants will learn to operate shotguns and practice skeet and trap shooting.

"We're providing a unique opportunity for junior Marines to learn from experienced shooters in a safe and friendly environment," said Lonny D. Evenson, QSC member and program mentor.

The program includes 50 rounds of free shotgun ammunition and targets costing $10. Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Chris Standish, a program participant, praised the initiative: “My mentor taught me the fine details of shotgun shooting, making a significant difference in my skills.”

Skeet and trap shooting involve tracking clay targets launched by machines. Trap shooting features single targets, while skeet shooting simulates bird flight with intersecting targets.

Stephen Austin, QSC board member, emphasized the club's commitment to Quantico's military community: “This program shows our dedication to providing junior Marines with opportunities to participate in shotgun shooting sports.”

To participate, active-duty servicemembers (E-4 and below) can visit the QSC Club House near the shotgun ranges. Staff will organize orientation, weapons handling lessons, and the course of fire.

"We believe this program offers junior Marines a great chance to enjoy outdoor fun and try a new sport, virtually free," Austin said.

The QSC's Shotgun Sports Mentorship Program aims to promote camaraderie, skills development, and community engagement among junior Marine.
