Spokesperson for Pakistani army stated more than 8,000 military operations were carried out against terrorists this year

The Pakistan Army announced on May 1 they had detained seven militants in Miramsha as part of an operation. According to a statement from the Army’s Public Relations Department, the operation was carried out based on confidential information, and the security forces killed the Syed Khan group of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Miramsha, North Waziristan.

The Army conducted the operation with the intention of arresting the militants and succeeded in capturing the seven armed men who were present at the scene. An army official in Miramshah, who spoke to Mashal Radio, asserted that the group led by Syed Khan had escaped to Afghanistan following the army’s Zarb-e-Azb operation against militants in 2014. Nevertheless, they have recently resumed their activities in North Waziristan.

The Pakistan Army launched a military operation called Zarb-e-Azb against militants in North Waziristan on June 15, 2014, which left more than a million people homeless. Although the Pakistani army and government claimed that they had defeated the militants, the attacks have continued to occur in the area.

In recent times, inhabitants of North and South Waziristan, Bajaur, Khyber, Swat, Bannu, and various other regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have expressed that armed groups have resumed their operations in those areas, resulting in an escalation in the number of security breaches.

The spokesman of the Pakistani army, Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary, told a press conference in Rawalpindi on April 25 that there have been 436 incidents of terrorism in Pakistan this year (2023), in which 293 people were killed and 521 were injured.

Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary, the spokesperson for the Pakistani army, more than 8,000 military operations of various sizes were carried out against terrorists this year. These operations resulted in the arrest of 1,378 suspected terrorists, while 157 were killed.

Additionally, 137 soldiers lost their lives, and 117 were injured during clashes with militants and their attacks. The Pashtun Tahafuz movement, along with local residents, political parties, and Jirgas, have been staging protests against the ongoing violence and insecurity in the region. They have called upon the government to take action to restore peace in the area.
